Welcome to 'All Things Are Connected'
Welcome to the 'All Things Are Connected' blog. This blog exists to celebrate, talk about, ramble about, rant about the interconnected-ness of literally all things... It is my sincere conviction that literally atom, every millisecond, every moment, every trial, every triumph, every thought, every detail in the entire universe finds it convergence and ultimate meaning somehow in Jesus Christ, the God Man, the Son of the Living God.
And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
-Colossians 1:17
Here, I plan to post about the perpendicular intersection between everyday, mundane life and the gospel. What we know as 'the gospel' finds a convenient summary in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4. For Christians, we believe this is the ground upon which we stand from a salvific perspective. Anyone who believes that God raised Christ from the dead is considered a Christian...and entrance into the family of God remains contingent on that fundamental truth. However, there exists a tendency when talking about the so called 'Christian Life' to divide Justification and Sanctification into contrasting principles... i.e. many Christians tend to think in terms of "getting saved is the easy part - just believe... but walking the Christian life takes effort, work, and diligence...'
This notion goes by many names including Semi-Pelagianism, Third Use of the Law, Synergism, etc. This blog outpost does not adhere to such a distinction or bifurcation between what one must do to inherit eternal life VS how to live the day-to-day Christian life.
This bastion in the wilderness will not feature steps to more godly living, principles for a better marriage, how to grow spiritually, etc...
I may cover current events, pop culture, parenting anecdotes, marital insights...all from the perspective and assumption that 'sanctification' or 'spiritual growth' happens (1) as a one-way, unilateral, irreversible heaven-to-earthward gesture by the hand of God... we contribute NOTHING to the process... (2) in the midst of daily, boring, mundane, interpersonal life-living.
Sanctification is an assumption based completely and purely on the objective fact of our union with Christ (see Romans 7:4-6). It has nothing to do with the amount of time we spend or don't spend reading the Bible, fasting, praying, fellowshipping with the saints, evangelizing, avoiding vices, etc... These are all 'good things' to be sure and I'm not saying 'don't do these things...', however none of these has the efficacy to produce or sustain our spiritual growth. Our growth is grounded 100% in the life of the One Man whose obedience literally is the righteousness of the saints...(Rom 5:19).
Welcome...enjoy...and may you find refreshment and encouragement here!
